RIA

The Rare Isotope Accelerator (RIA) will be the world's most powerful research accelerator dedicated to producing and exploring new rare isotopes that cannot be found on earth

RIA will enable us to study how the heavy elements are created and how nuclear properties influence the stars

It will utilize a heavy ion driver accelerator to bombard a variety of production targets to produce secondary beams of unstable nuclei via three different techniques

A secondary linear accelerator will be used to deliver beams of radioactive nuclei to of different energies to different experimental halls

One experimental hall at RIA will include equipment optimized for the study of nuclear reactions and nuclear structure relevant for astrophysics

The ARIA Working Group is addressing equipment design and facility issues for this hall

More Information on RIA is available at www.orau.org/ria

The RIA Facility Workshop at MSU on March 9 - 13, 2004, will include extensive discussions of the experimental areas. The meeting website includes preliminary drawings of the Experimental Areas at RIA
